Product Detail
Silica Free Engineered Stone Slabs - Australian Code Compliant Benchtop Surfaces
Apexstone's Silica Free Engineered Stone Slabs are specifically developed for the Australian market where engineered quartz containing crystalline silica has been banned for fabrication and installation from July 2024. Our silica-free formulation uses premium mineral aggregates and advanced resin technology to deliver the look, durability, and performance of traditional engineered quartz—without the respirable silica dust hazard. These slabs are the direct replacement for quartz benchtops in kitchen, bathroom, and commercial applications across Australia.lia.

Full-size silica-free engineered stone slab - pure white base with subtle grey veining, polished to a high-gloss finish. Available up to 3200 x 1600 mm (126 x 63 inch).
Why Silica Free? The Australian Regulatory Context
On December 13, 2023, Safe Work Australia announced a ban on the use of engineered stone containing crystalline silica, effective from July 1, 2024. This prohibition covers the manufacture, supply, processing, and installation of engineered stone benchtops, panels, and slabs with any detectable crystalline silica content. The ban was enacted in response to the epidemic of silicosis among stonemasons exposed to respirable crystalline silica dust during cutting, grinding, and polishing of traditional engineered quartz products.
Apexstone's silica-free engineered stone contains zero crystalline silica (verified to less than 0.1% by weight), making it fully compliant with the Australian ban. Fabricators, installers, and builders can cut, drill, and polish our slabs without the silicosis risk associated with traditional quartz surfaces—while delivering the same aesthetic and performance that Australian homeowners, designers, and builders expect from premium engineered stone.one.
Kitchen Benchtops & Islandsands
Our silica-free slabs are engineered primarily for benchtop applications. In Australian terminology, benchtop covers both kitchen benchtops and bathroom vanity benchtops, making this a versatile single-material solution for entire residential and hospitality projects.

Silica-free engineered stone kitchen island benchtop with solid waterfall edges - compliant replacement for traditional quartz benchtops in Australia.
Kitchen benchtops are fabricated in 20 mm (3/4 inch) and 30 mm (1-1/4 inch) thicknesses with polished, honed, or matte finishes. Each benchtop is cut to exact CAD dimensions with sink, cooktop, and faucet cutouts, plus eased, beveled, bullnose, and waterfall edge profiles. The non-porous surface resists staining from coffee, wine, oil, and food acids—meeting the demands of Australian family kitchens and commercial hospitality kitchens alike.
Bathroom Vanity Benchtops
For bathroom vanity benchtops, our silica-free engineered stone offers a clean, hygienic surface that resists moisture, soap scum, and cosmetic stains. We fabricate vanity benchtops with single or double bowl cutouts, faucet hole drilling, and integrated backsplashes. The non-porous composition means no sealing is required—unlike natural marble or granite benchtops. Honed finishes are recommended for bathroom applications to reduce slipperiness in wet environments.
Compliance & Certificationtion
Each batch of Apexstone silica-free engineered stone is tested and certified to contain less than 0.1% crystalline silica by weight, complying with the Australian Work Health and Safety regulations. Test reports and compliance documentation are provided with every shipment for builder, certifier, and council verification. The material also meets AS/NZS 4266.1 standards for water absorption, flexural strength, and abrasion resistance for benchtop applications.
Technical Properties
The silica-free formulation achieves a density of 2.3-2.5 g/cm³, water absorption below 0.2%, Mohs hardness of 5-6, and flexural strength of 40-50 MPa—comparable to or exceeding traditional engineered quartz. The non-porous surface has a stain resistance rating of Class 5 (highest) per ISO 10545-14, and the material is rated for heat resistance up to 250°C (482°F) for brief contact. Available in 20 mm (3/4 inch) and 30 mm (1-1/4 inch) thicknesses with slab sizes up to 3200 x 1600 mm (126 x 63 inch).
Surface Finishes & Coloursours
Available in polished (high-gloss, reflective), honed (matte, soft), and super-matte (ultra-low sheen, fingerprint-resistant) finishes. The current colour range includes Pure White with soft grey veining, Cool White, Warm White, and Solid White—each engineered to mimic the appearance of premium natural marble or engineered quartz without the silica hazard. Custom colours and vein patterns can be developed for project volumes above 500 m².
